BINTOU DEMBELE
Bintou is one of the early pioneers of French hip hop choreography. She completed a residency at la Halle aux Cuirs of the Parc de la Villette where she created “Mon appart’ en dit long,” a movement piece exploring the challenges of womanhood in the public sphere. One of her most acclaimed pieces, “ZH,” uses dance to examine human zoos in France in the late 19th-century, and how these colonial mechanisms continue to affect French society in the present.
